As of January 1, 2018, California’s new marijuana laws went into effect, which means legal recreational cannabis is now available throughout the state. Rebel Coast Winery was ready for the change in legislation, as their marijuana-infused sauvignon blanc hit the shelves as the clock struck midnight in 2018.
The wine is actually completely alcohol-free, but contains four milligrams of THC per serving ,which will get you nice and high in about 15 minutes, according to Cosmopolitan. The winery also plans on releasing other weed-infused varieties, including a rose and a sparkling and also a CBD wine which will have the medicinal effects of marijuana without actually getting you high. Since there's no booze in these wines, a hangover-free experience is in store for those who partake in the wine's consumption.
"Winemakers have been making infused wine for years, but no one developed a reliable method to remove the alcohol and infuse it with cannabis' active ingredients in a way that wasn't impacting the quality of the wine," said Alex Howe, Rebel Coast Co-Founder, in a press release.
The winery has bottles available for shipment online and also plans on distributing to over 500 Califnornia dispensaries. For now you have to be a California resident to get your hands on a bottle of Rebel Coast’s $59.99 mariju-wine-a, but plans are in the works to sell it in other states whose laws allow it.
