Ugly Christmas sweaters are a holiday tradition, with parties and events centered around them every December, but that’s not the case at three separate bars in East Yorkshire, England, where they’re banned from the premises for the entire holiday season, according to the Hull Daily Mail.
Alan Murphy, owner of Lion and Key, Hawkes, and Walters (which are all specifically located in the small town of Kingston upon Hull), instituted this policy in an effort to keep out hard partiers, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and general rowdiness so that his regulars can enjoy a relaxing drink without too much revelry. Though this Scrooge-esque policy may seem a bit overboard, it has apparently been met with support from his clientele, with Murphy telling the Hull Daily Mail, “At the end of the day lots of our regulars say it's fantastic what we are doing.”
It feels a bit extreme to blame sweaters for bad bar behavior, but Murphy’s policy stands, no matter how un-festive it might feel to some, and it looks like the ugly sweater-wearers of Kingston upon Hull will have to find other pubs where they can proudly display their reindeer-covered garb.
