One of the first things you might notice about Emily Ross-Johnson, founder of the Astoria Whiskey Society, is that when she talks about drinks, she also talks about food. For Ross-Johnson, that’s important. She has attended more than a few events “where there’s lots and lots of booze available, and no food.” Before the event is over, “people are just wrecked – and that’s not a good scenario, and it’s not an environment that I want to promote. I always want to encourage people to drink responsibly, and part of that is having food with what you’re drinking – and I like good stuff. I like good cocktails and I like good whiskey. The same holds true for food.”
