Talk about your summer bummers, Constellation Brands the parent to Mexico’s Cervecería Modelo and its flagship, warm weather pale lager Corona Extra, has issued a recall on bottles sold as six-packs, 12-packs and 18-packs.
According to Fox News, the recall was prompted by the threat of glass shards being present in bottles of the brew. Though no real injuries have been reported yet, concerns arose during a recent quality control inspection where lab techs discovered design defects that could cause small particles of glass to break off and fall into the beer. The defective bottles were traced back to one of several third party manufacturers contracted by the company to produce them.
Only a small percentage of bottles sold are believed to be affected by the defect, and the voluntary recall only concerns select six-pack, 12-pack and 18-pack packages containing bottles with specific production codes. Other Corona products, like kegs, cans, 24-packs with loose bottles, 24 oz. bottles and Corona Light have not been recalled.
Check here to see if the Corona chilling in your beer fridge is from one of the suspected lots. If the production codes don’t match up, feel free to sip away without fear.
