Citing the high probability of terrorist attacks, global booze behemoth AB-InBev won’t throw its Club Bud party at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. In the not so distant past, those big bashes proved a huge hit at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and the 2006 Olympics in Turin.
According to reports, Budweiser’s parent is feeling a little skittish about the security situation in Russia, and is backing off to keep its employees out of harm’s way.
Meanwhile, those unspecified threats don’t appear to have shaken the resolve of binational Canadian-American beer goliath Molson Coors Brewing Company. In fact, iconic Great White North brand Molson is repping hard at the country’s Olympic House.
The company has outfitted the space with a large fridge stocked up with its beers that are available completely free of charge to Canadian athletes and citizens there to support them. The only hitch is, if they want a cold one, they have to furnish their passport to get it. The fridge is equipped with camera that scans the passports for authenticity. Provided everything checks out, it will dispense a beer.
