Cooperstown, NY-based Brewery Ommegang has just announced the follow up to Iron Throne Blonde Ale. The second beer in the HBO Game of Thrones-inspired series will be Take the Black Stout. Brewed with caramel, chocolate and roasted barley malts; hopped with Northern Brewer hops; and spiced with licorice and star anise, the ale will be available nationwide this fall.
Take the Black is inspired by the Night’s Watch (and the men who stand it), and features the sacred Weirwood tree on the label. Ommegang’s Mike McManus took that inspiration and turned it into the hearty and robust beer — something those standing at the wall would sip to fortify them on their watch.
The first Game of Thrones beer did so well that bars and bottle shops sold out within days of receiving shipments, so this year Ommegang is producing more than double the volume of the themed beer. When it does arrive, look for it on draft and in 750-mL corked and caged bottles. A new custom glass designed for the stout will also be available. We’ll keep you posted.
