It may not be Romulan Ale, but Star Trek wine is now available for pre-order. A red bottled in Sonoma at Viansa Winery, the wine is a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Dolcetto, Tinta Cao and Tempranillo grapes.
What makes it special are the labels, all based on Juan Ortiz prints commissioned by CBS to commemorate Star Trek: The Original Series. You can get "The City on the Edge of Forever" (April 1967); “Mirror Mirror” (October 1967); or “The Trouble With Tribbles” (December 1967). Each bottle is available for $25, or you can order a variety pack, half case or case of the three labels. The pre-sale ends on July 31, and the likelihood is this limited edition run will sell out.
The wine is described as medium-bodied, and is a modest 13.5% ABV. It’s probably not what led to the hangover that Patrick Stewart (aka Captain Picard) cited as the reason for his very first slice of NYC pizza, but you never know — he probably does get early access.
